PACO RABANNE

01 PROJECT DETAILS

From SS2013 to FW2015, Madeleine Huwiler was the Accessory Design Director at Paco Rabanne, working under the creative leadership of Lydia Maurer and Julien Dossena.

Her role was to oversee the development and creation of a new accessory collection encompassing bags, SLGs, shoes, and jewelry. Each piece echoed the iconic themes of futuristic glamour, geometric intricacy, and bold material experimentation synonymous with Paco Rabanne’s legacy.

02 THE PROCESS

Working under Artistic Director Lydia Maurer (SS13 and FW13): The SS13 and FW13 collections focused on meticulously handcrafted accessories. Madeleine worked with her team to incorporate the famous metal discs from the iconic Paco Rabanne bag into other accessories in the collection.

Working under Artistic Director Julien Dossena (SS14): With a fresh aesthetic under Julien Dossena, the SS14 collection was expanded to include different categories of leather goods. The team worked to introduce the famous ‘chain mail’ for evening bags, taking inspiration from design elements found in the Paco Rabanne archive.

03 THE RESULT

Madeleine successfully guided Paco Rabanne’s accessory collections from SS2013 to FW2015, creating staple pieces under two celebrated artistic directors. The metal disc and chain mail accessories originally presented many technical challenges — before ultimately being delivered as successful pieces. This experience proved invaluable for Madeleine as she continued to prove herself as an established accessory designer.
